Our childcare serves children ages 4-12 and is provided at the same site and same times as the full days of our teacher training course (Monday July 22-Saturday, July 27 from 8:45am-5:00pm). The cost of childcare is $300 for the 6-day program and includes lunch each day. We are not able to pro-rate this program for planned or unplanned absences. Our teacher to child ratio is 1:8. Childcare is not currently offered for the Introduction to Permaculture class or for the course orientation evening, and while we do not currently offer a program on-site for children under the age of 3, we may be able to connect you with an childcare provider from within our area.
Each morning, activities will include a nature craft activity, story, forest free-play, farm chores and snack time. The children spend lunch break with their parents. In the afternoon, they will enjoy a mix of adventure time, rest time for younger children, forest play, nature games and nature art & crafts.
IPEC's Childcare Program Director in Portland is Sara Eisenfeld. Her work with children is extensive and is influenced by permaculture, Waldorf education, social justice, Jon Young's work with nature connection and mentorship, as well as her relationship with her Jewish roots and traditions. She relates beautifully with children of all ages, and designs programming that artfully integrates the needs of all.
Please plan to bring a backpack for each child containing snacks, water bottle, sun hat, sunscreen, change of clothes. Please label all of these items with your child's name. Children should arrive each day with sunscreen already applied and wearing pants (there are lots of plants that poke and sting at the farm, so bare legs are not a good idea) and sturdy sandals that can get wet.
